Start your BA career easily and with the end goal in mind…

One of the most important things I’ve learned from Steven Covey’s book – The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is to begin with the end in mind, in other words, do the end result.

This mindset has set the tone for some of the strategies I apply to reach my goals and to create my own successes.

It’s so important to continuously frame your mindset to line up with the end result you want to achieve.

What does that end result look like for you?

Smashing that interview and getting your offer for that dream job? A promotion – the salary increase or the corner office that comes with it?

Whatever it is, write it down and schedule reminders daily to imagine yourself at that end state…as if you already had that result.

How does it make you feel? What will you be doing? What will your friends say to congratulate you?

Re-live these feelings daily and you know what, your mindset begins to get re-programmed in that positive direction. And before you know it, you begin to attract the energy, the connections, the resources and the attitude you need to get that result.

This is what it means to show up daily, it doesn’t matter whether you feel like it or not.

Set the intention and do those things that will ultimately bring you to the successful outcome you want – whether that’s landing your dream BA job in 3-6 months, getting a raise or promotion etc.

As always, cheers to your BA career success…

Is Your Confidence Getting The Better Of You?

Everyone has moments in their lives when they need a little psyching up to get through critical assignments.

And an Alta ego is a fun way to motivate yourself to step out of your comfort zone to slay dragons, tap into your zone of genius or do things that would normally seem intimidating, due to your own limiting beliefs.

This could mean getting through a big meeting, an interview, asking for a raise, meeting a hard deadline or even speaking in public.

Whatever it is, there is that best version of you right inside who knows how to kick ass and knows exactly what you need to get you through a seemingly challenging situation.

That bold, fierce and ruthless person who doesn’t take no for answer.

Who helps you push through situations that would have normally felt intimidating.

That person who takes the lead and says things you’ve been meaning to say, without knowing how to say it.

And you suddenly feel like you’ve been possessed when he/she takes over.

The truth is, that best self is actually your true self, stifled by your insecurities, doubts, and fears.

Your Alta ego can become your default personality.

Why conjure up someone better than you to come to your rescue when you can strive to be your best self all the time?

This is why the students and clients in my Confidently Hired Business Analyst Membership Club are able to slay their BA projects like PRO’s on the job through my proven BA career transition strategies, PLUS they get my on-going support to ensure they know exactly what to do to sky rocket and accelerate their BA careers.

How To Keep Your Projects Organized As A Business Analyst

As Business Analysts it’s important to be super organized, especially as you’ll be required to juggle multiple competing priorities on your projects.

And it’s so easy to feel overwhelmed by the demands sometimes – keeping up with meetings, writing your BRD’s, FRD’s, drawing up your business process and use case diagrams etc.

Though there are tons of productivity hacks or recommendations out there like the Pomodoro technique, some recommend scheduling your daily tasks to the smallest detail, others recommend ditching sleep so you can get up at 4 am and become a “morning person”.

But the truth is, if your productivity is not at its peak in the mornings, all you’ll end up with is a headache, lots of caffeine with nothing done.

It’s important you get to know your rhythm and figure out the best strategies that work well for you so you can balance your responsibilities effectively.

One thing that has worked really well for me is that I keep my day ‘top heavy’.

Meaning, I prioritize my most important or unappealing tasks first and I leave emails, casual meetings, and other not so important tasks for later in the day.

This helps me meet my deadlines because I’m focused on my most important deliverables first without distractions.

I can also work through my emails and respond more thoughtfully when I’m under less pressure.

What about you? How do you keep organized when you’re juggling multiple things at work as a BA or an aspiring BA?

As always, cheers to your BA career success…

Your Fool-proof Business Analysis Career Transition Game Plan

It’s easy to get distracted by the anxiety and frustrations that come with searching for your dream BA job.

Especially if you’re relying solely on job boards sending out resume after resume into the recruitment black hole.

But there is a certain level of confidence you exude when you know your worth and you understand that your knowledge and skills are an asset to your dream employer.

This confidence gives you an edge over the plethora of candidates vying for the same opportunities.

And these are proven strategies I teach my students and clients in the Confidently Hired Business Analyst membership Club which has resulted in BA multiple interviews and also multiple BA job offers within a few weeks of joining the club.

You are your own CEO and marketing manager. And no one else can best advertise your value than YOU.

The way you portray your image and personal brand matters throughout your job search.

Seth Godin says describes this marketing phenomenon best and I quote:

“Have you become so good at what you do that your dream employers come asking, or are you still at the same level as everyone else who has to go knocking?”

What will you do this week to change your marketing strategy so you can land your dream BA job even faster?

As always, cheers to your BA career success…

Soft Skills Yay or Nay?

Heck yay!!!

You’ve probably heard me go on an on about the the skills you REALLY need to start your DREAM BA Career.

Communication – both written and verbal is one of the key ones.

There are quite a few other skills which we all have and use everyday like…

Organizational skills and critical thinking…

Being organized is a must for you as the BA, being the facilitator responsible for steering the business in the right direction.

Also making sure you’re able to keep to deadlines and hold others accountable especially if you’re assigned the role of a scrum master on an Agile project.

Empathy is also another one which some people overlook – and it doesn’t mean rolling over and accepting everything that gets thrown at you…

You’ll need to draw a fine line between what’s important that supports the business goals and objectives vs. what’s simply a nice-to-have feature, that can be thrown in if time and budget permits.

Critical thinking can’t be overrated, about 80% of your job as a business analyst involves thinking through ideas and concepts.

The most important thing is knowing how to leverage these skills and drawing from examples in your current or previous role to craft a market ready BA resume that will help you land your dream BA job even faster.

As always, cheers to your BA Career Success!
